Hans Kooistra graduated in 1990 at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Utrecht, The
Netherlands. After working in a private practice for some time, he followed an internship and
a residency in internal medicine of companion animals at the Department of Clinical Sciences
of Companion Animals, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University (from 1991-
1994). After the residency he became Assistant Professor (1994-2003), Associate Professor
(2004-2018) and Full Professor (2018-…) at the same department. Since 2018 he is head of
the division of Internal Medicine of Companion Animals. Duties include patient care,
education (to students, post graduate training and training of interns and residents) and
research in internal medicine of companion animals, with special emphasis on endocrinology
and reproduction. In 1997 he became Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary
Internal Medicine-Companion Animals (ECVIM-CA). He successfully (“cum laude”)
defended his PhD thesis entitled “Adenohypophyseal function in healthy dogs and in dogs
with pituitary disease” in December 2000. Hans is (co-)author of more than 170 peer-
reviewed articles and several book chapters.
In 1995 he married to Hilde. They have two children, David and Roselinde. Another
important member of the family is their dog Twister.

Federico Fracassi graduated in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) “cum laude” State University of Bologna, Italy. At the same Faculty, he did an internship and started a Ph.D. In 2005 he defended his Ph.D. thesis. After the Ph.D., he becomes a permanent staff member at the Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences – University of Bologna (Italy) where at present is Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Head of the unit of Internal Medicine. He completed a Residency in Internal Medicine at the Clinic for Small Animal Internal Medicine, University of Zurich, Switzerland, and gained his status of European Specialist in Internal Medicine in 2012 (Diplomate ECVIM-CA-internal medicine). Duties include patient care, education (to students, postgraduate training and training of interns and residents), and research in internal medicine of companion animals, with special emphasis on endocrinology. He is the past-president of the European Society of Veterinary Endocrinology (ESVE), past-president of the Italian Society of Veterinary Internal Medicine (SIMIV), vice president of the executive committee of the ECVIM-CA congress. He is editor of “Veterinaria”, a peer-review journal and associate editor of JSAP. His publication list consists of more than 90 journal articles, he is author of books and book chapters. His main research focus is the field of small animal endocrinology.

Associate Professor, Small Animal Internal Medicine 

University of Florida

In his current role, Chen combines clinical and didactic teaching with clinical work and research in the field of endocrinology, focused on canine and feline diabetes mellitus, obesity and gastrointestinal hormones. Before coming to the University of Florida, Chen held faculty positions at UC Davis and the Ohio State University. Chen worked as an internal medicine consultant for IDEXX Diagnostics in the UK and as a general practitioner in Israel and in the USA.  Chen has earned his DVM from the Koret School of veterinary Medicine (Israel) and his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois where he also completed a 3-year residency in small animal internal medicine. He is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.

  Stijn se formou na Universidade de Ghent. Após um estágio na Universidade de Glasgow e uma residência no Royal Veterinary College (RVC), ele se tornou um diplomata do European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Stijn completou um PhD em diabetes mellitus, avaliação da qualidade de vida e terapia genética na Newcastle University Medical School e no RVC. Durante sua carreira de docente de 16 anos no RVC, Stijn atuou em clínicas de referência, ensinando alunos e pesquisando, tornando-se professor de medicina interna, bem como um dos diretores clínicos do maior hospital de referência para pequenos animais da Europa. Stijn encontrou novas curas para doenças antigas, publicou vários artigos científicos, escreveu capítulos e co-editou livros-texto importantes. Ele acredita que todo médico deve ser capaz de desfrutar do nível único de suporte clínico, desenvolvimento pessoal e orientação encontrado em ambientes universitários.

A Dra. Linda Fleeman dirige o Animal Diabetes Australia, um serviço clínico que atende especificamente cães e gatos diabéticos em Melbourne.

É especialista de renome internacional no tratamento do diabetes em cães e é regularmente convidada para falar sobre esse assunto em fóruns internacionais e nacionais. Ao longo de sua carreira, ela trabalhou tanto na prática de referência universitária quanto na prática privada, e seu foco principal por mais de 20 anos tem sido em todos os aspectos do diabetes em cães e gatos.

Linda se formou na University of Queensland e completou um Small Animal Medicine Internship na Murdoch University e uma Residência em Small Animal Medicine na University of Melbourne. Isso foi seguido por um PhD na University of Queensland sobre o manejo clínico do diabetes mellitus em cães. Ela ocupou cargos de conferencista em Medicina de Pequenos Animais na Universidade de Queensland e conferencista Sênior em Medicina de Pequenos Animais na Universidade de Sydney antes de fundar a Animal Diabetes Australia em 2010
